ABOUT THE ROLE The Farm Assistant will provide practical, school-level support for the establishment, maintenance, harvesting, record-keeping, and sustainability of ecological school gardens. You will work closely with teachers, students, cooks, and School Garden Committees to ensure gardens thrive, produce nutritious food, and serve as living classrooms for learning and climate action. Your work will help nourish children, strengthen communities, and build a food secure future for our region. YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT BY: - Supporting climate-smart school gardens - Empowering students with hands-on learning - Contributing to healthier meals and stronger communities KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Assist with land clearing, soil preparation, raised bed preparation, and the use of climate-smart technologies. - Support planting, weeding, composting, mulching, and other sustainable gardening practices. - Ensure gardens are maintained during school breaks and academic holidays. - Work alongside teachers and students to provide demonstrations and hands-on training. - Harvest and prepare produce for school meals, ensuring quality and safety. - Maintain garden logbooks and basic records. - Ensure safe use and care of tools and equipment. - Promote climate-smart agriculture and eco-friendly practices in all activities. WHO SHOULD APPLY? Individuals with a passion for gardening, agriculture, working with children, and building resilient communities. Experience in school or community gardens is an asset.
